With over 17 years in law enforcement, I am committed to advancing leadership and community engagement. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Stephen F. Austin State University and spent over 5 years working in media across both radio and television as a DJ, reporter, and finally as a producer at KXAN Austin.
Transitioning to the Austin Police Department marked a significant shift in my career path. I began working nights in East Austin, where I gained valuable firsthand experience in diverse and challenging environments. Later, I moved into supervisory roles across various shifts, from Parks to Patrol. Additionally, I had the privilege of serving as a hostage negotiator and a mental health officer, experiences that deepened my understanding of community needs and law enforcement challenges.
I have spearheaded projects aimed at enhancing community engagement and fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities we serve. Currently serving as a Patrol Lieutenant, I am passionate about developing the next generation of leaders in law enforcement.
I am looking to connect with fellow first responders to share knowledge, best practices, and insights with innovative leaders in our field. If you are interested in discussing leadership or would like to join us as a guest on our podcast, please contact us through our website. Let's come together to exchange stories and experiences that will empower and elevate officers and first responders to excel in our roles and uphold the highest standards of integrity and service.
With nearly two decades of experience, I've had the honor of supporting individuals from all walks of life, including veterans, first responders, and their families, as they confront the unique challenges inherent in their service. From managing mental health crises to addressing substance misuse issues and navigating the complexities of relationships, I am committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate care.
My passion for this work is deeply personal, as I am not only a mental health professional but also the spouse of a law enforcement officer, Chris Casto. Through both personal and professional lenses, I understand the profound impact that service can have on individuals and their loved ones. It is my privilege to support and advocate for the well-being of our dedicated first responders and their families.
As a licensed clinical social worker and chemical dependency counselor, I bring a wealth of knowledge to The Blue Watch. I have a Master of Social Work from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Marketing from the University of Texas at San Antonio. I currently maintain my own private practice at Honeycomb Counseling based in Austin Texas.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, exploring the great outdoors with our three small dogs, and promoting mental health awareness.
